Okra Growing Season in India

In general, okra requires a long warm season to grow successfully; In India Summer (February-April) And rainy (June – August) is the ideal season for planting okra.

Okra Seeds Sowing Method

You can sow okra (ladyfinger) directly in any pot or grow bags with coco peat or potting mix. Okra seeds germinate best at a temperature of 18 to 32°C. Take a pot or grow bag, fill it with a mixture of soil and organic fertilizer or potting mix then sow 2-3 okra seeds per container about 0.5 to 1 inch deep in the soil (12-18 inches apart in a row). Water gently with a sprayer and keep the seedling in a bright and warm place. Keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. Okra seeds will germinate in about 5 to 14 days.

Sunlight  Okra or ladyfinger needs at least 6 hours of full sunlight in a day.
Water  Give water regularly to your okra plants. It can also tolerate dry conditions; give 1 liter of water per week and keep the soil moist, especially in the growing season.
Soil – Okra (Ladyfinger) plant prefers well-drained, fertile soil for better results.
Temperature – The ideal temperature for growing okra is ranging between 20-35 degree Celsius.
Fertilizer  Use water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks after the okra plants reach 6 inches in height.
Common pests – Pests that affect the Okra (Ladyfinger) plants are Aphids, Corn earworms, Stinkbugs, and Fusarium wilt. Use organic pesticide `Neem oil’. it protects the plant from harmful pests.
