Description

  • This variety of amaranthus has red broad ovate leaves and red color stem. Amaranthus is considered a weed but nowadays it is grown as a herb. The leaves are excellent for adding to salads and soups and are used as a garnish.
  • Where to grow: Balcony or terrace garden Sowing season: Throughout the year Germination temperature: 18-30°C Germination Time: 6 to 10 days from sowing Plant vigor: Strong plant
  • Soil – Use loamy soil, nutrient-rich, and well-drainage soil for planting Amaranthus.
  • Water – Amaranthus needs average water, give 1-inch water per week but the soil should be moist, not soggy.
  • Sunlight – Amaranthus thrives in full sun, however, it can grow in partial light, at least 6 hours of direct sunlight is needed for better growth of Amaranthus.
  • Temperature – Amaranthus grows best in temperatures between 21-35°C.
  • Common pests – Amaranthus plant is damaged by some foliar insects like leaf miners, leaf rollers, cutworms, aphids, flea beetles, and mites. The plant usually suffers from root rot which is caused by moist soil conditions or overwatering. To control these pests use organic pesticides such as neem oil.
