  • Chappan Kaddu also known as Indian summer squash and an annual vine plant that grows well in warm climates. Summer squash (Chappan Kaddu) is dark green in color that is a small, round, and neutral-flavored vegetable.
  • Where to grow: Balcony or terrace garden Sowing season: Throughout the year (The best time is June To August) Mode of sowing: Sow the seeds 0.5-1 inches deep in a Container, or Pots. Germination Time: 6 to 14 days from sowing Germination temperature: 15 to 30°C Harvesting: 2 to 3 month Plant vigor: strong plant Fruit Average weight: 200 to 250gms
  • Water – As Summer squash is a vine plant that needs 1 inch of daily water and soil should moist but avoid over watering.
  • Soil – Use well-drained and fertile soil with 6.0 to 7.5 PH for planting squash.
  • Sunlight – Dark Green Summer squash plants require 6-8 hours of full sunlight every day.
  • Temperature – Summer squash/Chappan Kaddu plant grows fast in temperature between 15-32℃.
  • Common pests – Cucumber beetles, and squash bugs are the common pests found in summer squash plants. Bacterial wilt and blossom end rot and powdery mildew makes foliage white, stunted and wilted. Use organic pesticides and neem oil to avoid these insects and pests.
